IEA Vacancy for Software Developer

The IEA (International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement) is an independent, nonprofit research organization. We conduct international and national large‐scale comparative studies of educational achievement and other aspects of education, with the aim of gaining in‐depth understanding of the effects of policies and practices within and across systems of education. At the IEA Hamburg over one hundred specialists are involved in managing the different tasks of a study ranging from sampling to data analysis. Our experts also provide a wide array of services related to international and national surveys and assessments.

We have an immediate opening for a full‐time (40 hrs/week) Software Developer (C#) (f/m/d) to support our Software Unit


The Software Unit provides professional software applications and solutions to support all fields of activity of the IEA and thus assists all IEA studies undertaken in Germany and worldwide. The applications and solutions cover phases of study implementation such as study preparation, sampling, codebook design, item design and translation, data collection and coding, data cleaning and processing, data analysis, and data export.


Your tasks:
 Analysis and review of requirements
 Estimation of development tasks
 Maintenance and adaptation of existing desktop and web applications used for educational studies
from cycle to cycle Securing high software‐quality standards
 Troubleshooting of the software applications used for running educational studies
 Development of new features in existing applications as requested
Your profile:
 University degree or successfully completed vocational training as a Software Specialist in IT, Computer Science, or a related subject
 Experience with Microsoft software development technologies and tools (e.g., .NET Framework 4.5, Visual Studio 2017 or higher)
 Very good programming skills in C#, WPF, Entity Framework, ADO.Net
 Very good knowledge of database technologies (SQL, T‐SQL, Stored Procedures, database design), preferably in MS SQL Server 2016 or higher
 Experience using Git or other version control system
 Knowledge of Angular or Vue.js preferred but not a must
 Analytical way of thinking and being able to deal with multiple tasks based on priorities
 Good communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as a team player
 Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form in English
